Cricket, lovely cricket! Cricket is a favorite pastime of the Commonwealth. Jamaicans are good at many things, cricket is one of them. Alfred Valentine, George Headley, Courtney Walsh, Jimmy Adams, Gerry Alexander, Jeff Dujon, Chris Gayle, Michael Holding, Lawrence Rowe, Frank Worrell, Marlon Samuels, and Andre Russell are all prominent Jamaican Cricket players. Headlining teams from the days of ‘test cricket’ to the modern days of ‘Twenty Twenty’ cricket games.

Historically cricket was a game for the upper class British. Today, the game serves to socialize and bring persons together and one of Jamaica’s favorite sport.

Here are four of our best.

Chris Gayle

Chris Gayle is the first person to score a century in a T20. Serving as the captain of the West Indies test side from 2007-2010, Gayle is one of only four players in history who have scored two triple centuries at the test level. In 2005 Chris Gayle scored 317 against South Africa and 333 against Sri Lanka in 2010. Chris Gayle is the only cricket player to score a triplet of centuries, which in cricket world is a triple hundred in Tests, double hundred in ODIs and a hundred in T20Is.

The main question is which team is Chris Gayle next IPL team. The cricketing world awaits the champion batsman.

Jimmy Adams

Serving as a batsman, wicket-keeper, and spinner, Jimmy Adams played 55 test matches for Jamaica for 18 years since 1985. His legacy included scoring 11 centuries (100 runs in one game), and a total score of 3830 runs following Adam’s retirement from actively playing cricket. Jimmy became manager of Jamaica’s under-19 side in 2006, also in 2008; he also took over from Barry Richards and became president of the Federation of International Cricketers’ Associations. Later that year, they also appointed him technical director of Jamaica’s cricket development program. Jimmy Adams is by far one of the most memorable Jamaican cricketers.

Jeffery Dujohn

One of the most skillful batsmen Jamaica has seen, Jeffery Dujohn is named amongst the best ten wicket-keepers ever to play the game. While Dujohn dominated the game in the 1980s, we mostly know him for his five test centuries and scoring his highest score of 139 in a match again in Australia in 1985.

Courtney Andrew Walsh

Courtney Walsh was captain of the West Indies Cricket team for 22 test matches. Courtney Walsh’s bowling skills are legendary. His career as a cricketer lasted almost two decades. In that time, Walsh set a recent world record scoring 425 wickets in a test match. He served as a fast bowler, and best known for an outstanding opening bowling partnership along with West Indian Curtly Ambrose for many years. Walsh retired on a high after taking 519 test wickets. Not to mention In October 2010, they inducted him into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame. Courtney Walsh is a favorite cricketer to many Jamaicans.
